Retweeted to you by...

Dabr is finally able to show Twitter's "new" style retweets!

and we'll let you create your own too:

I'm probably going to tidy up the retweet screen over the next few days to improve the wording. As usual, if there are any bugs or ideas you have then let us know :)

thanks - I think, I hate the new style RTs on twitter. I rarely want to RT without adding a comment.

Forgot to mention in the main post: I have no intention of removing the old style retweets from Dabr and I of course see the benefit of being able to edit the messages before you post them :)

It's good to have both, but as with many people I think I'll stick with the old style. The main thing I don't like about the new RT feature on Twitter is losing is the 'trail' that brings a RT to me - if I see something interesting RTed via a chain of a few people, I'm likely to go and look at all of them, see if they're worth following... afaict the new RT feature loses that info and only preserves the names of the originator and the person nearest you in the chain. I think that's an unfortunate loss.

I really dislike the new twitter RTs - you lose so much. And it's a drag to see them in dabr with the avatar of someone you're not following. Is there any way to turn them off?

It is unlikely that I will disable the new style retweets. My question posed to some others already (with no response) is: If I made the new RTs look like normal RTs in Dabr - would you still want them removed? I see no benefit at all.

They do feel more intrusive to me, but I don't think they should be disabled - I'm sure I'll get used to them. If there was an option to turn them off I think I'd leave them enabled.

I'm already seeing some unfortunate applications for advertweets mind you - the "RT this to win Lush crap" kind of stuff is definitely more annoying when it comes into my stream 'directly' rather than via someone else's account. No idea how Lush (for example) intend to track who has RTed with the new style - can it be done?

May I suggest something?
Instead of showing two alternative RT: the old and modern - when someone will do reTweet, what if you show RT 2 links on each tweet?
I mean, later on there will be every tweet 5 link: @ (Reply), DM, FAV / UNFAV, RT1, and RT2.
In this case, RT1 is allowing reTweet edits (old style), whereas RT2 is the official Twitter reTweet

@Denny
Through the Twitter website you can see who has retweeted your tweets. That was one of Twitter's main goals. It also slightly helps the Lush spam problem by ensuring that any user would only see the message once - as long as no one uses the old style RTs.

Check out Ev's long blog post for more information: http://evhead.com/2009/11/why-retweet-works-way-it-does.html

@tegar
Adding an extra link for each tweet makes each page about 1KB bigger, plus having to download an extra icon. I know it seems small but I really do try to keep bandwidth down.

@DavidCarrington
Thanks for your reply.
I'm glad you're intended to keep bandwidth down.
Dabr has Text Only mode in setting right?
People who need to save bandwidth, like me, will always prefer use that setting.
