Avoiding Twitter.com

Employers and schools aren't usually very keen on social networks - they like to block things like Twitter and Facebook to make sure you're more productive. I disagree with this and think that some use of social networks can be beneficial in both environments.

A whole bunch of you used to use Dabr to bypass the blocks that your employer or schools put in place, then Twitter's latest login changes made that more difficult. Today we've added a new feature that hopefully lets you continue to use Dabr wherever you need it.

The one requirement for this feature to work is that you need to log in at least once from a computer that does have access to Twitter. Sorry, that's unavoidable. You can do it from your home PC, your phone, anything, it doesn't matter - once you've done that you can visit the Dabr settings screen and fill in a password, anything you like, for your Dabr account and from then on in you can use this new account to sign in to Dabr.

Our standard login screen...

Dabr-home

... the new extra login screen...

Dabr-login

...and the little extra bit on the settings screen:

Dabr-register

If you're having issues, you can try http://app.twipler.com which has the same "account" options. Sign in once with twitter.com, then go to twipler settings and create a password for future use.

Great work David. I'm realising there's no point writing great functionality if the usablity is rubbish. I'm gonna go back and try and make mine clearer.

@Ian Quigley

I really rushed the UX with this new feature and it is something I would like to revisit. All I did was re-arrange some code and tack a MySQL database onto Dabr's old login system.

For reference, the code changed for this feature can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/dabr/source/detail?r=337

Why do I have to sigh in afresh each time I access twitter via Dabr on my phone? And yet each time I log in I opt to stay logged in.

I was trying to setup dabr account password in the Settings page.(I turned the MYSQL-USER feature on.)

But after I setup the password, dabr didn't store the password into the MySQL database. And when I checked the "user" table on MySQL, I found it was empty.

If you could tell me what was wrong?
Thank you!

I've the same problem as "Elton Disney" said. It is not storing the PW. It just says, Invalid Username or Password. There is no problem in MySQL. Please help me..
